Putting a face to the name
You might have seen my post on Instagram about a new face for the little blue house. A crucial part of our renovation plan is adding a front door. See, right now, when you pull up to the house, you have no idea where to get in! There's no door! The options are to walk around the back to the deck and enter through the kitchen. Or walk through the gate around in the grass to the lonely porch and enter through that door. Neither is very welcoming. The sweet house needs a face.
As soon as our designer suggested adding the front door on the driveway side of the house, where a window currently sits, we were all for it. What a great idea!
I knew right away the door I would want. Very Fixer Upper, rustic but modern with plenty of glass to let in the light to that middle section of the house. Our choice is an 8-light rustic wood finish, but in Fiberglass to protect from the elements since we will not be doing an awning or covering right now.
Here are some pics so you can see what we have in mind.
See that middle window with the electrical box? That will be our front door! Plus inspiration screenshots from my excessive Pinteresting.
Oh and I saved the best for last. During the extensive foundation work we did when we first closed on the house, the workers removed many of the stacked stones under the house. At first we were heartbroken. Kevin called the workers and had them haul the stones back so we could save them for a use in the future. They piled them by the old chimney outside. And, yet again inspired by this magical place and our helpful contractor, my wonderful husband suggested using these stones for the stoop in front of our new front door. The perfect tribute to the house's hidden humble beginnings.
